WOODEN WICK CANDLE-BURNING TIPS
You may or may not know that you need to Trim Your Wick before lighting your candle. The reasons are very simple on why you should Trim Your Wick and I have listed out some important reasons below.
SAFE FLAME HEIGHT, NO BLACK SOOT
Keeping the candle wick trimmed helps control your flame height. Too big of a flame will cause the candle to burn to hot which isn’t safe for you, your space or your candle. It will also cause and create black soot, not cute. I know you’ve all seen candle vessels with that nasty black soot all over the inside walls of a candle vessel. I’m here to teach you how to NOT get that black soot, and teach you how to burn safely.
Trim your wick before each burn to 1/8”, that’s pretty short but don’t be scared this is exactly where you want your wick height to be. You will see your flame is low and inside your candle vessel rather than above it. If your flame is too high, even while burning your candle you can use our Gold Wick Trimmers to trim off the burnt wood or ash. You will immediately see that your flame has gone back to a normal and safe flame height.

Trimming your Wick also helps create an even and clean burn. No sink holes, no tunneling and no leftover wax on the sides of your candle vessel. That means a longer lasting candle, where you can burn almost all the way down to the last drop of wax.

• Make sure your wick is always trimmed to between 1/8” – 3/16” before lighting. If the wick is too long, the wax will not pull up the wick and the wick will extinguish.
• If when burning the candle for a long period of time you notice the flame height getting too low, it may be necessary to tap off any excess ash or burnt wood along the top of the wick. The flame will then return to its proper optimal height.
• Be very careful not to let any debris from the wick into the candle
• Extinguish candle when ½” of wax is remaining
• Do not burn candle more than 4 hours at one time

CANDLE SAFETY
• Never leave a burning candle unattended.
• Extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep.
• Trim wick to 1/4 inch before lighting
• Trim the wick to one-quarter inch each time the candle is lit. This helps prevent the flame from getting too large.
• Follow the 2 foot rule - don't place a burning candle near clothing, books, curtains or anything flammable.
• Keep lit candles away from drafts, ceiling fans and any air currents.
• Place candle holders on a stable, heat-resistant surface that is sturdy and large enough to catch any melted wax.
• Extinguish a candle if the flame gets too close to the candle holder or container.
• Place burning candles at least 3 inches apart from one another.
• A burning candle should not be used as a nightlight.
• A candle should not be burned for more than 4 hours at a time.
• Don’t burn a candle all the way down. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when 1/2 inch of wax remains in the container.
